"Working Title"
  • The Purple Eagles are 1-4-1 all-time against Pittsburgh. The first match took place on Monteagle Ridge on Oct. 25, 1988. The Panthers won 1-0.
  • The last time the Purple Eagles and Panthers met was in the 2012 season opener. The teams played to a 1-1 draw. Current assistant coach Rene De Zorzi scored the opening goal of the match to put NU in the lead 1-0. Pittsburgh was able to score in the final minutes to send the game into overtime, where the Purple and White outshot the hosts 3-2 but were unable to break the tie.

  • Friday's match will be the first time in program history that NU will face West Virginia.
  • The Purple Eagles are one of four MAAC teams that have yet to register a tie this season (the others being Siena, Canisius, and Saint Peter's). Last season it took eight games before a match ended in a draw. Through seven games this year, NU sits one game below .500 with a 3-4-0 record.
