"We played very well today. We dominated this game from start to finish," head coach
Peter Veltri said. "Defensively, we shut them down and if it wasn't for a bad penalty kick call, I don't believe they would have scored on us. Our midfielders and strikers created a lot of opportunities to score today and look very dangerous going forward."
Niagara created majority of the scoring chances throughout the 110 minutes of action. The Purple Eagles peppered Manhattan's net with 20 shots, including outshooting the Jaspers 3-0 in overtime, which led to eight saves by the Jasper goalie.
Niagara had three scoring opportunities in the final five minutes of regulation.
Hayley Besaw, who led the match with five shots, forced two saves in the 85th and 87th minute, while
Naomi Giovino had a shot soar over the crossbar. In overtime,
Shawnique Samuels,
Amelia Gulley and Giovino all had shots on net.
The Purple Eagles return home to host the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
