Women’s Soccer Welcomes Robert Morris, Travels to Manhattan

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Niagara women's soccer will look to improve on a 3-1-2 record with a home game against Robert Morris on Thursday, Sept. 18 in the final non-league contest before Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play begins against Manhattan on Sunday, Sept. 21.

The Purple Eagles will wrap up their four-game home stand against the Colonials at 3:30 p.m. at Niagara Field, before taking the trip to Riverdale N.Y. for Sunday's 10:00 a.m. contest.

Purple Eagles 101
  • The Purple Eagles began the season with a three-game unbeaten streak before suffering their first blemish against Buffalo.  Niagara bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Binghamton and earned a 0-0 draw against Cleveland State to push their overall mark to 3-1-2. 
  • Junior Hayley Besaw has pocketed a team-high five points, all coming off assists, including a pair of multiple-point contests. Senior Haillie Price has added a team-leading two goals. Freshman Eva Bachmann and seniors Courtney Pierce and Catherine Meyer have also contributed a goal each.
  • Junior goalkeeper Claire Feiertag logged her third solo shutout, a career-high, in the draw against CSU.  Overall, Feiertag has made 24 saves for a .857 save percentage. 

In the Conference
  • Besaw is tops in the conference in assists (5) and assists per game (0.83), while she is tied for 10th in the league with Rider's Priscilla Santos with 0.83 points per game.  
  • Price is tied for first in the MAAC with two game-winning goals.  The senior secured the Purple Eagles' season-opening victory at St. Bonaventure on Aug. 27, and the 2-1 win over Binghamton on Sept. 12.  
  • Feiertag holds the top spot in a pair of categories, leading the conference in goals against average (0.60) and save percentage (.857).  The Ridgeway, Ont. native is tied with Fairfield's Kathleen Early with three shutouts, and is one behind tying Monmouth's Nicole D'Agostino for the conference lead.  

Taking a Looking at Robert Morris
  • Robert Morris will come to Niagara Field looking to snap a six-game winless streak.  The team is 1-5-1 in their first seven games, with the Colonials' only win coming against Duquesne in the season-opening contest.  The last contest ended in a 2-1 overtime RMU loss to Northern Kentucky on Sunday, Sept. 14.
  • Four players on the roster have registered points, with seven of the team's 20 points coming from sophomore Antonia Grese (three goals, one assist).  Junior Kristie Hamilton is second on the team with six points off two goals and two helpers. Junior Madison Kozlowski and sophomore Erin Ritzer have combined for seven  points, pocketed four and three points, respectively.
  • Goalkeeper Becky Schoenecker has seen the majority of time in net for the Colonials, making 33 saves for a .846 save percentage.  The senior has also been behind the team's only shutout, a 0-0 draw to St. Bonaventure. 
  • The Purple Eagles hold a 12-9-1 advantage against the Colonials, but dropped the most recent decision on Aug. 25, 2013 when Niagara fell to RMU by a 2-1 score in Moon Township, Pa.

Scouting Manhattan
  • Niagara's matchup with Manhattan will the Jasper's only game this week, with their previous contest coming against Yale on Sept. 14 which resulted in a 2-1 victory.  The win pushed Manhattan's overall record to 5-3-0.
  • Senior Aislinn McIlvenny is tops on the squad with 12 points, all coming off a team-leading six goals.  Junior Emily Ude has pocketed a trio of points, while juniors Colleen Kavanagh, Sam Washuk and Tiffanie McIntosh have all tallied a goal in eight games.  
  • Kristen Skonieczny has played every minute for the Jaspers, making 31 saves for a .775 save percentage.  The junior has also a trio of shutouts to her name. 
  • The Purple Eagles lead the all-time series against the Jaspers, 14-5-3.  The last time these two teams met was on Sept. 28, 2013 when NU scored two second-half goals to come out with a 2-1 victory over the Jaspers.   

Up Next for Niagara
  • The Purple Eagles continue conference play with a home contest against Quinnipiac on Sept. 27, before ringing in the month of October with cross-town rival Canisius in Buffalo, N.Y.
