Four-Game Home Stand Continues with Binghamton, Cleveland State

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's soccer team continues its four-game home stand against Binghamton at 4 p.m., followed by a Sunday matinee versus Cleveland State at Niagara Field with kickoff set for 2 p.m.

Purple Eagles 101
  • Niagara enters the match with a 2-1-1 record after starting the season with a three-game unbeaten streak.  The Purple Eagles suffered their lone hiccup with a 2-0 loss to Buffalo last Sunday.
  • The Purple Eagles' lineup features four goal scorers, led by Haillie Price, Courtney Pierce, Eva Bachmann and Catherine Meyer with a goal each.  Hayley Besaw remains the team's leading point-getter off three assists. 
  • In goal, Claire Feiertag has played every minute of the season.  She boasts a 0.29 goals against average, allowing just one goal this season and tallied a pair of shutouts to tie her career record.
Taking a Looking at Binghamton
  • After starting off the 2014 season with three straight losses, Binghamton looks to extend its current three-game winning streak, following victories against Iona, Siena and Lafayette.   
  • Sophomore midfielder Katie O'Neill leads the team with five points (two goals; one assist), while freshmen Jocelyn Acor and Jacque Rice have garnered four points each off a pair of goals.
  • Freshman Kaite Hatziyianis and senior Gaby Gold have split time in between the pipes for Binghamton.  Both goalkeepers have made 10 saves on the season and allowed four goals for a .715 save percentage.
  • The Purple Eagles and Bearcats meet for the seventh time in program history on Friday afternoon. Binghamton holds a 6-1-0 advantage in the series. The teams collided last season in Vestal, N.Y. where the Bearcats handed Niagara a 3-1 defeat.
Scouting Cleveland
  • Cleveland will head to Canisius on Friday with a 3-4-0 mark before coming to Monteagle Ridge for Sunday's afternoon contest against Niagara.  The Vikings were on a three-game winning streak that saw them outscore their opponents by a 11-2 margin before Kent State handed Cleveland a 1-0 loss on Sept. 7.
  • Senior Amanda Sivic leads the squad with eight points off four goals, while junior Chloe Fadenholz is not far behind with seven points off three goals and one assist.  Senior Kelsey Fischer and sophomores Sarah Kaiser and Haleigh Shingary have also tallied a goal each.
  • Junior goalkeeper Sarah Wood has started in all seven games thus far, making 32 saves for a 1.42 goals against average and a .780 save percentage.
  • Niagara and Cleveland has met three times prior with the Purple Eagles winning all three meetings.  The last this these two team met was in 2009 when the Purple and White came away with a 2-0 triumph.
The Road Ahead
  • The Purple Eagles conclude their longest home stand with the season's final non-conference match.  Niagara welcomes Robert Morris on Thursday, Sept. 18. for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. 
  • NU then hits the road for the team's first MAAC contest of the season, beginning with Manhattan on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m.
