Willmott Scores Pair In 2-1 Win Over Colgate

Box Score
HAMILTON, NY – Callum Willmott opened and closed the scoring for the Purple Eagles as they came away with their first win of the season 2-1 in overtime over the Colgate Raiders on Sunday afternoon.

"Colgate is a very strong squad this year, but our guys did a great job of responding after Friday's match and executing the game plan," head coach Eric Barnes said. "It was a complete team effort capped off by two great finishes by Callum."

The first of the senior's two goals came in the 34th minute when he chipped the ball past a diving keeper from 40 yards out to give the Purple and White the 1-0 lead. Niagara (1-1-0) held the lead into the second half when Colgate (1-1-0) tied the game in the 64th minute to send the game into overtime where Willmott again broke the tie for NU. This time, Julian Ekeze found the Iver, England native in the box where he converted for the golden goal to give the Purple Eagles the 2-1 win.

Willmott scored on both shots he registered on the afternoon with Nicholas Watson adding another pair of his own. Andrew Ferguson and Coletun Long both added a shot on goal.  Steve Casey earned the win in his first collegiate game after allowing just the one goal while making three saves through 100 minutes of action.

The Purple Eagles are back in action on Friday, Sept. 5th when they take on Bowling Green in the first of two games in the Duquesne tournament next weekend.
