Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Second half goals by
Julian Ekeze and
Jacob Ohlin propelled the Purple Eagles to a 2-1 over the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Saturday.
"We did a good job today dealing with less than ideal field conditions and getting a result," head coach
Eric Barnes said. "We were unfortunate to concede the own goal on the free kick in the first half. However, the team really came together in the second half and showed great character to score two goals. Both goals were well taken by Julian (Ekeze) and Jacob (Ohlin). Steve (Casey) was commanding in goal and made a few big saves to keep us in the game. Overall, it was a great team win that we can build from."
Casey, a local product from Buffalo, N.Y., made a total three saves as Saint Peter's (2-10-0, 0-4-0 MAAC)) applied pressure throughout the first half and held on 10-1 shots advantage.
The Peacocks led 1-0 through 67th minutes before NU (5-7-1, 2-2-1 MAAC) tied up the match. Ezeke cleverly lifted his shot over the onrushing keeper into the net for his first goal of the season. Ezeke was the provider on Niagara's game-winning goal in the 83rd minute when his cross found the head of Ohlin who placed it past the keeper for his first goal of the season.
NU returns to New Jersey on Wednesday to face Rider at 4 p.m.
