Men’s Soccer Blanked by Robert Morris

Box Score

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Niagara men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 setback against the Robert Morris Colonials on Friday afternoon.

Niagara faced a constant Colonial attack all afternoon, facing 21 Robert Morris shots while the Purple Eagles only got five looks on goal.

The opening half only saw one goal as Neco Brett chipped Niagara goalkeeper William Banahene at the top of the box 16 minutes into the contest to give RMU a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The second 45 minutes of play saw Robert Morris dig Niagara into a hole they could not climb out of with a trio of tallies.  Robert Morris extended their lead to 2-0 in the 54th minute as a Miro Cabrilo corner kick found the head of Matt Fonagy.  Carl Reid put the Colonials up 3-0 with nine minutes remaining in the contest after capitalizing on a penalty kick opportunity, and Bruce Cullen solidified  the victory less than three minutes later.

Banahene wrapped up the afternoon with five saves.

Niagara will conclude its five-game road trip when the Purps travel to Loretto, Pa. to play the Saint Francis (Pa.) Red Flash on Sunday, Sept. 22.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
