LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Niagara men’s golf team brought its season to a close with a team low 325 for the MAAC Championships in Sunday’s final round at the Disney Palm Golf Course.
The 325 team score is four shots lower than NU’s opening-round tally of 329. The team finishes in ninth place with a 985 for the tournament, 12 strokes lower than eighth place Siena. Loyola (Md.) won the Championship with a 881 for the event.
Senior
Michael Jiggins again led the team, this time with a 77 (+5) to finish tied for 11
th place with a 227 for the tournament.
Jacob Felicetti turned in an 83 (+11) for the third consecutive round for a 249 overall.
Jackson Lizardo and
Anthony DiBacco again improved form the previous round, with the freshman carding an 81(+9) on Sunday for a 250 total score and the senior scoring an 84 (+12) for a 262.
Kenneth Hand rounded out the scoring with a 91 (+19) to finish with a 267.
"Mike finishing tied for 11th in his final tournament as a senior and pacing the team through the 2013 MAAC Championships was a great way for him to end his time on Monteagle Ridge," said head coach Jeff Meitus.
The MAAC announced the 2013 All-Academic teams during the final round of the Championship and the Purple Eagles men’s team placed three golfers on this year’s squad as Hand,
Zach Clark and
Marc DeGuilio were all honored. When combined with the seven players from the women’s side, NU lead all MAAC teams with All-Academic honorees.
To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
