Niagara Blanked at Manhattan in Final Game of the Season

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Niagara men's soccer team closed out its 2013 season with a 3-0 loss at Manhattan College on Saturday afternoon.

Manhattan scored its first goal in the 20th minute of the opening half when Daniel Festa knocked in a header off an Alex Shackley cross.   Niagara went into the break only down a goal, but allowed a pair of quick scores in the first five minutes of the second frame to fall behind 3-0.

Eugene Heerschap gave the Jaspers a two-goal cushion in the 47th minute with a strike from five-yards out that slipped past NU keeper Brenden Ottman to his right, followed by a Tommy Amos tally 36 seconds later to solidify the victory.   

Ottman collected four saves to finish his first season as a Purple Eagle with a 4-8-1 mark.  The Jaspers led shots, 7-2 while Niagara held the corner kicks edge, 6-5.

The Purple Eagles finished their campaign with a 5-12-1 overall record and a 3-6-1 mark in MAAC action.  The Jaspers improved to 5-10-2 and 5-3-2 in conference.
