Men’s Soccer Falls to Monmouth, 2-0

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Niagara men's soccer team were blanked by Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Monmouth Hawks, 2-0, in a Saturday evening contest at The Great Lawn.

With the loss Niagara drops to 4-11-1 overall, and 2-5-1 in conference play, while Monmouth improves its record to 8-5-4, and 7-0-2 in the MAAC to remain unbeaten in league action.

The game remained scoreless until the 73rd minute of play when Francois Navarro headed in a David Acuna Camacho cross inside the box to make it a 1-0 game with 13 minutes remaining in the contest.  Monmouth solidified the victory with a second tally in the 81st off a Dan Pizzimenti goal via assists from Joseph Schmid and John Egan.  Schmid connected with Pizzimenti with a cross across the 18-yard box, and Pizzimenti tapped a low shot into the corner of the goal.

The contest ended with the Hawks outshooting the Purple Eagles by a 21-4 margin.  Nicholas Watson led the team with a pair of looks on net.  Niagara goalkeeper Brenden Ottman  stopped five Monmouth saves for the game.

Niagara will play its last home game of the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 6, hosting Marist College at Niagara Field for a 2 p.m. kick off.  NU will then play Manhattan College on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.  Tin its final regular season game of the year.
