NU’s Three-Game Winning Streak Up Against Siena, Quinnipiac

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's soccer team will put its three-game winning streak on the line when it hosts Siena on Wednesday, before traveling to Hamden, Conn. on Saturday to battle Quinnipiac. 

Wednesday's game will begin at 4 p.m., while Saturday's kickoff will begin at 1 p.m.

Purple Eagles 101
Niagara will begin this week's play with a 4-9-0 overall mark, and a 3-2-0 conference record, currently sitting in seventh place in the MAAC.

The team is led by Breanna Catipovic's six goals for 12 points.  Catherine Meyer is second on the Purple Eagles with one goal and four assists for six points, while Haillie Price is not far behind with five points off two goals and a helper. 

Claire Feiertag, this week's MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, is NU's go-to goalkeeper this season.  She has played in 1058:15 minute so far this season, making 56 saves while allowing 17 goals.  The sophomore holds a .767 save percentage and a 1.45 goals-against average in 12 games.

Last Time Out
A pair of rookies led the Purple Eagles to their third straight win last Saturday as the team dropped Saint Peter's, 2-1 in double overtime.  After falling behind to the Peacocks in the 33rd minute, freshman Shawnique Samuels evened the game 10 minutes later with her first tally of the season.  The game-winning goal came in the 102nd minute of play off the foot of Maureen Papaconstantinou, also her first of her NU career.

Scouting the Saints
Siena is currently on a three game unbeaten streak, including two straight shutout victories over Saint Peter's, 2-0 and most recently against Marist, 1-0.  The team holds a 6-5-1 overall record, and a 2-1-1 conference mark.

This season, Siena is led by Brittany Pfaff's 26 points on 11 goals and four assists.  Pfaff is the leading scorer and point getter in the MAAC.  The Saints have also received offensive contributions from Taylor D'Alfonso and Tara Sobierajski who have each scored a pair of goals and added three assists.

All three Siena goalkeepers have seen action this season, but Taylor Booth has played the majority of minutes.  The junior has made 39 saves and allowed 14 goals for a .736 save percentage and a 1.53 goals-against average.  

All-Time vs. Siena
Niagara holds a slim 11-10-3 advantage over Siena in the all-time series which dates back to 1990.  Last season the Purple Eagles out battled the Saints on Sept. 28, 2012 for a 3-2 victory off a pair of goals from Price and a goal from Danielle Kennedy.  Feiertag made five saves in the win.­

Taking a Look at Quinnipiac
The Bobcats are currently tied for fourth in the MAAC with Fairfield and Siena with seven points each while holding a 2-1-2 conference record and a 2-5-3 overall mark.  The team will play Marist on Wednesday before traveling to Monteagle Ridge for Saturday's tilt.

The team is led offensively by Jessica Fontaine this season with seven points on two goals and three assists.  Aaine McKeever and Beck Kiting each have two goals, while McKeever has also added a helper for five points.

Natalia Grodzki has played almost every minute in goal for the Bobcats in 2013, posting a save percentage of .804 and a 1.05 goals-against average.

First Time For Everything
This will be the first meeting between Quinnipiac and Niagara.

Up Next for Niagara
The Purple Eagles will begin their final road trip of the season next week beginning with a trip to Fairfield, Conn. to face the Fairfield Stags on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.
