NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Niagara men's soccer team was defeated in overtime, 1-0, by the Iona Gaels on Saturday afternoon at Mazella Field.
The loss drops the Purple Eagles' Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference record to 1-4-1, while its overall record now stands at 3-10-1. Iona is now 4-2-1 in MAAC play and 7-6-2 overall.
"The team did a good job sticking to the game plan to deal with the intense wind," head coach
Eric Barnes said. "Unfortunately we made a mistake early in the overtime period and were punished."

The game was physical throughout with a combined 21 fouls and a pair of yellow cards handed out, but Iona saw the better of the chances. Through 90 minutes the Gaels outshot the Purple Eagles 19-7, with nine of those hitting the target, compared to Niagara's three.
Ottman made his eighth consecutive start for the Purple Eagles, making eight saves in the game to tie his career-high, while his counterpart Julian Petrello made three saves on the afternoon for the Gaels. Niagara's

Niagara continues its three game road trip with a short drive to Buffalo on Wednesday, Oct. 30 to face Canisius in a Battle of the Bridge contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
