Second Half Scoring Outburst from Fairfield Results in NU Loss

Box Score

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Niagara conceded a pair of goals at the start of the second half en route to the Purple Eagles' 4-0 blanking by the Fairfield Stags on Saturday afternoon at Lessing Field.

With the loss Niagara drops to 4-11-1 overall and 3-4-1 in MAAC play, while Fairfield improves to 10-5-1 on the season and 6-1-1 in the league.

"I'm extremely disappointed with our effort in the second half of today's game," head coach Peter Veltri said.  "We lost our way today.  We played like 11 individuals instead of one unit.  We need to put this behind us as quick as possible and prepare for our next game."

Claire Feiertag kept the game scoreless heading into intermission, as the sophomore goalkeeper saw eight Stag shots in the first 45 minutes of play, stopping five that were on target.

It only two Fairfield five minute after the break to find an answer to the Niagara defense, notching a pair of quick goals to provide itself a two-goal cushion.  Brenna Brown got the scoring started at the 46th minute.  The rookie midfielder received a feed from Jac Ley on the left side before letting a far corner shot go for her fourth of the season.  Three minutes later, Cassidy Boegel netted her own score with her first of the year off an assist from Karolyn Collins.

The final 10 minutes of the contest saw the Stags put the game away with another pair of tallies, first off the foot of Syndey Arestivo, followed by head from Brown for her second of the game.

The game ended with the Stags outshooting the Purps, 14-2.  Feiertag made six saves on the afternoon.

Niagara plays its final road contest of the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 23 in Lawrenceville, NJ when the Purple Eagles take to the field against Rider at 4 p.m.
