Men's Soccer Drops Close Game In Overtime

NIAGARA UNIV, N.Y. – After taking the opening lead, the Niagara Purple Eagles dropped their Senior Day matchup with Fairfield 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
 
Jack Welsh opened the scoring with his first of the season.  Ken Cooper took a corner kick in the 64th minute that made it to the far side of the net where Welsh was waiting to put his squad up 1-0. 
 
The Purple Ealges (2-9-1, 0-2-1 MAAC) controlled play thoughout most of the second half, but the Stags (5-3-2, 2-1-1 MAAC) tied the game in the 78th minute with Reco McLaren's fifth of the year.  Niagara had a few more chances down the stretch, which a couple of nice crosses from Copper finding open Purple Eagles, but it wasn't able to convert and the game went into overtime.
 
McLaren was able to find the back of the net early in the 94th minute for his second of the game and gave the visiting Stags the 2-1 win.
 
Jacob Ohlin led the team with a pair of shots on goal.  Brenden Ottman  got the start in goal and made four saves. 
 
Before the game the Purple Eagles held a ceremony to honor the three seniors on the 2013 squad.  Cooper, Nick Garcia  and Micah Paulino all had family in attendance.
