The Purple Eagles start their final road-trip of the season with a match-up against the Manhattan Jaspers on Friday.  Manhattan is the only team in the MAAC that Niagara has yet to face in the 2011-12 season and these two teams will meet twice in the final six games of the year.

Niagara has three wins in its last six games and is going up against a Manhattan team that has won three-straight.

Kayla Stroman will try and continue her recent hot streak.  The guard has scored double-digits in five of the last six games, including three games where she hit 17 points, and has averaged 12.5 points per game over that span.

Last Time Out...
NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women’s basketball team suffered a one point loss on Saturday, dropping a 58-57 decision to Canisius on a last second shot at the Gallagher Center.

With nine seconds left in the game, Canisius (11-12, 5-7 MAAC) inbounded the ball to Ashley Durham who was defended closely by Niagara (8-16, 5-7 MAAC) but was able to connect on an off balance shot to give the Golden Griffins their fourth and final lead of the game.

Niagara led Canisius for most of the contest before the final seconds.  The Purple Eagles were in front for the first 16 minutes of the game as they effectively utilized the depth of their bench.

The Purple Eagles were in control throughout most of the second half as well, building a 10-point lead through the first ten minutes of the half as Stroman, McGuinness and Jess Flamm made three-pointers within a three-minute span.

On The CourtManhattan Jaspers (12-11, 6-5 MAAC)
Manhattan is riding a three-game winning streak, having defeated Saint Peter’s, Siena, and Marist in its last three contests.  This recent success comes on the heel of a three-game losing streak against Loyola, Iona, and Fairfield.  Manhattan is in the middle of a stretch where they play five-of-seven at home.

The Jaspers are led by senior Lindsey Loutsenhizer who leads the team in points per game, with 12.6, rebounds per game, with 6.5, and shooting percentage, hitting 44.9 percent of her shots from the floor.

Sophomore Monica Roeder is stepping up, landing in the top five on the team in points per game (third with 10.3) and rebounds per game (fourth with 3.4).

Did Anyone See A Shadow?
The last time the Purple Eagles and Jaspers waited until February to kick off their season series was in the 2003-04 season.  The teams faced off on Feb. 1 at Manhattan and Niagara won the game 71-31, its largest victory over Manhattan in team history.  The win was the first of a four-game winning streak that included two series sweeps between 2004-06.

Meeting In The Tournament
Niagara’s last victory over Manhattan came in their last MAAC Tournament matchup (of which there are only two).  The Purple Eagles had four players score double-digits, with Liz Flooks and Kayla Stroman both scoring 17, in Niagara’s 66-54 victory.

Stroman’s Lucky Number
Sophomore Kayla Stroman has scored 17 points in three of Niagara’s last six games.  Over that stretch she has failed to hit double-digits only once and has averaged 12.5 points per game.
