Women's Basketball Hosts Little Three Rival St. Bonaventure

Home Again
The Purple Eagles started the season off on the right foot with a win on the road and will try to keep the momentum rolling when they come home to host the St. Bonaventure Bonnies.

Monday’s game will be the 56th meeting between these two programs, good for third most against any program in Nigaara’s history.  These two teams have been going head-to-head ever since the Purple Eagles joined the NCAA for the 1974-75 season.  More recently, the Purple Eagles went 3-2 against the Bonnies between 2002-2006, winning those games by an average of 8.3 points.

Fans can watch all of the action on Purple Eagles All-Access, the game will be called  by  play-by-play announcer Todd Callen.

Last Time Out
The Purple Eagles started the 2012-13 season with a 63-59 victory over the Robert Morris Colonials.  Niagara went on a 10-2 run at the end of the first half to take the lead heading into the break, a lead they would only give up briefly in the second half.  Senior Jess Flamm led the team with 14 points while Meghan McGuinness, Kelly Van Leeuwen, and Lauren Gatto all had a team-high seven rebounds.

On The Court: St. Bonaventure Bonnies (1-0, 0-0 A-10)   
Saint Bonaventure followed up their 2011-12 success with a season opening 61-34 win over Binghamton. Ashley Zahn led the team with 14 points in 23 minutes of action while CeCe Dixon added another 10.
    
Last season the Bonnies won their first ever A-10 regular season title after a campaign that saw them ranked as high as 16th in the nation.  They made it to the 2012 NCAA tournament and advanced to the Sweet-16.

Against the Bonnies (SBU leads 33-22)
St. Bonaventure has had the upper hand in the series as of late, going 5-0 in the last five contests. Niagara’s last win came in 2006-07 when the Purple Eagles scored a seven-point victory, 71-64.

Against the Atlantic-10
Niagara has played six of the 14 teams that make up the modern day A-10 with only two of those matchups, including SBU, coming in the last decade. Three (Rhode Island, La Salle, and Fordham) were played in the 1990s while the only time NU faced-off with Dayton came in the 1978-79 season.

Round 56
The Purple Eagles have faced the Bonnies 55 times thoughout program history, good for third on the most played all-time list behind Canisius (80) and Siena (65).  Niagara has faced SBU the most out of all non-MAAC oppnents.

Home is Where the Heart Is
The Purple Eagles will play four of their next five games at home in the Gallagher Center.  They will face St. Bonaventure, Bowling Green, Oakland, and Kent State over that stretch.

Home Openers Throughout History
Since the 1976-77 season the Purple Eagles have an 18-18 record in home openers.  Beginning in that season, Niagara won it’s first four openers in the Gallagher Center by defeating Damen, D’Youville, Brock (Ont.), and St. Bonaventure.

Put It on the Board...
Two Niagara freshmen scored their first collegiate points against the first half against the Robert Morris Colonials on Nov. 9th.  Sam Lapszynski hit a pair of free throws while Vanessa Neal hit a long jumper.
