Niagara Hosts Two MAAC Opponents This Weekend

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women’s soccer team welcomes the Manhattan Jaspers on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. before hosting the Saint Peter’s Peacocks on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.

Purple Eagles 101
The Purple Eagles (6-7, 1-3 MAAC) will be looking for two conference victories this weekend after dropping two contests to MAAC opponents. 

Junior defender Danielle Kennedy and Haillie Price are tops on the team in points (8), but Kennedy leads the Purple Eagles with four goals.  Price and Catherine Meyer have each tallied three scores this season, while Jamie Raepple has provided offensive contributions (2-3-7). 

Keeper Claire Feiertag has played a majority of the minutes of the Purple Eagles so far this season.  She has three shutouts to her name, earning a 1.49 goals-against average to go along with her .771 save percentage. 

Scouting Manhattan
The Jaspers come to Monteagle Ridge with a 4-7-0 overall mark and a 1-2-0 MAAC record, recently losing a close 1-0 contest to Loyola.   

Juniors Janie Schlauder and Martine Diamond are tied for the team-lead in goals (3) and points (6).  Rookie Emily Ude has also added tally for the Jaspers to go along with an assist for three points. 

Senior keeper Kara Davis will likely earn the nod in goal for Manhattan, earning a 0.60 goals-against average .896 save percentage so far this season. 

Jaspers vs. Purple Eagles
Niagara leads the all-time series against the Jaspers by a 12-5-3 mark.  The last time these two teams met was on Oct. 2, 2011 when the Purps and Jaspers battled into double overtime.  Niagara came out the victor, with a 2-1 win as Chelsea Mandino (’12) score the game-winning tally with 90 seconds remaining in the contest. 

Michaela DiFazio scored the team’s first goal of the game.   

Taking a Look at Saint Peter’s
Niagara welcomes Saint Peter’s with a 1-12-0 record and a 0-3-0 conference mark.  The Peacocks recently lost to the Rider Broncs, 6-1 in MAAC play.

SPU has six individuals who have tallied at least one point so far this season.  Senior midfielder Jamie Lisanti leads the team with three goals and seven points.  Forwards Amanda Feldstein and Emily Fenice, as well as two other Peacocks have netted two scores this season. 

Senior Caitlin Hoffer has been the go-to keeper for Saint Peter’s this season, accumulating 103 saves for a 4.17 goals-against average and a .682 in 12 games. 

All-Time vs. the Peacocks
The Purple Eagles hold the edge of the Peacocks, winning 13 of the 19 games these two squads have met on the field. 

Last season, Niagara came out with a 4-2 victory when the team traveled down to Jersey City, N.J.  Kayla Picanco propelled NU towards victory with her first career hat-trick of the season, while Breanna Catipovic added a tally. 

Last Time Out
Niagara dropped two conference matchups last weekend, losing a 2-0 decision to the Fairfield Stags before falling to Iona, 2-1. 

Price was the lone Purple Eagle to tally a goal for Niagara, while DiFazio notched the helper.  Feiertag finished weekend play making 11 saves for a .733 save percentage and a 2.00 goal-against average. 

Senior Day
The team will be honoring five Purple Eagles on Sunday during Senior Day.  Niagara will be losing five vital members of the squad in Michaela DiFazio, Jamie Raeppe, Amanda TaylorJulianne Viviano and Karina Kesvatera

Next Up for NU
The Purple Eagles take part in their final two road games of the regular season, starting with Loyola on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. before wrapping up road play against Rider on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m.
