Women's Hoops Prepares for Peahens

The Purple Eagles can get back to a .500 record at the Gallagher Center with a win over Saint Peter’s.  A victory would bring them to 3-3 at home in the 2011-12 season.
 
Niagara will also try to break a three-game losing streak to the Saint Peter’s Peacocks, a team that has yet to win a game in this season.

Last Time Out...
NIAGARA UNIV., NY – Despite several extended runs, the Niagara women’s basketball team dropped its first home game of the New Year to the Iona Gaels 71-61 on Saturday.
 
In the first half, Iona (6-8, 2-1 MAAC) built the largest lead in the game, 30-13, with just under nine minutes left in the half but a jumper by Lauren Gatto began an 11-0 run for the Purple Eagles (4-10, 1-2 MAAC).
   
To begin the second half Niagara found itself in nine points hole.  Val McQuade got the 11-2 run started and a three-pointer by Kelly Van Leeuwen tied the game at 56-56.  The teams traded baskets until the Gaels were able to pull away with a 71-61 victory.
 
On The Court: Saint Peter’s Peahens (0-14, 0-3 MAAC)  
Saint Peter’s is still looking for their first win of the season and came close in its game on Jan. 2, 2012 when it dropped a 56-54 decision to Marist. 
   
The Peahens are led by senior forward Jynae Judson who is scoring 15.7 points per game.  Sophomore Khadijah Young is the team’s three-point threat, hitting 16-58 three-point attempts.
 
Against the Peahenss (SPC leads 42-11)
 After splitting the season series in the 2009-10 season, the Peahens swept the Purple Eagles in the 2010-11 campaign.
 
We’ve Gotten To Know Each Other
The Purple Eagles have played SPC 53 times over the which is good for third in games against MAAC opponents.  Canisius is firs ton the list with 78 games played and Siena is second with 64.
 
Follow The Leader
Kayla Stroman has led the Purple Eagles in scoring in eight of the team’s 14 games.  In all the Purple Eagles have had six different players score a team-high in points in games this season.  They have had one senior, one junior, two sophomores, and a freshman. 
 
Don’t Unpack Those Bags
Niagara’s five-game road-trip was the first leg of playing nine of 11 games on the road.   After home games against Iona and Saint Peter’s, the Purple Eagles are back on the road for a four-game road-trip.
