Men's Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak

Green Bay, WISC – The Niagara men’s soccer team improved its unbeaten streak to five games with a 2-0 win over Green Bay.

The Purple Eagles (4-1-1) had to overcome rough conditions to shutout the host Phoenix (2-2-1) in its opening match of the weekend.

“[The game] was on a field that was a little choppy,” head coach Chase Brooks said after the win. “It was hard to control the ball at times but the guys worked hard and converted the few chances we had.”

Freshman Callum Willmott scored the first goal for Niagara in the 15th minute off of a pass from senior Carl Haworth. Later, Haworth would team up with another freshman, Jacob Ohlin, as the upperclassman scored Niagara’s second goal with less than a minute left in the first half.

Niagara’s defense would take over from there to complete the shutout. They would hold Green Bay scoreless for the entire second half to extend their shutout streak to 213 minutes.

“The guys played extremely well defensively to preserve the win,” said coach Brooks.

Men’s soccer is back in action on Sunday when they face Eastern Illinois for a chance to win their first championship of the year.
