BALTIMORE - The Niagara women's basketball team dropped a 67-41 decision to the second place Loyola Greyhounds on Monday night at the Reitz Arena.
Niagara (1-24, 0-14 MAAC) never led in the game, but was competitive throughout. The Purple Eagles outscored Loyola (15-10, 12-2 MAAC) in the paint, 12-10, but the difference in the game was bench points; Loyola held a 16-1 advantage. Another big difference was 3-pointers, with the Greyhounds making nine and the Purple Eagles failing to make one (0-for-3).
The Purple Eagles were trailing 18-12 with 10 minutes left in the first half when the Greyhounds went on a 15-4 run and eventually took a 37-20 halftime lead. Loyola would shoot 50 percent from the field in the second half to pull away for the win.
Loyola sweeps the season series for the first time since the 2006-07 season.
Freshman Chanel Johnson scored 10 points for her second game in double figures scoring. Junior Meghan Waterman also scored 10 points, one point shy of tying a career-high. Waterman had game-highs with seven rebounds and four steals.
Niagara returns home to conclude its home schedule, beginning on Friday night versus Rider at 7 p.m.
