Quest For A MAAC Title

The No. 4 Niagara Purple Eagles will clash with the No. 5 Marist Red Foxes in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament. Niagara is making its six trip to the MAAC Tournament in the last seven years.

Scouting The Red Foxes

The No. 5 Marist Red Foxes enter the game with an overall record of 8-6-4, with a MAAC record of 4-4-1. Winners of three of the last four games, the Red Foxes are led by Stephan Brossard with seven goals, six assists and 20 points.

Marist also has additional depth with Lucas Szabo (5-2-12) and Krystian Witkowski (4-2-10). Between the pipes for the Red Foxes will likely be Steve Skonieczny, with a 1.19 goals-against average and a .738 save percentage.

Proving His "Worth"
Carl Haworth leads the Purple Eagles and the MAAC in goals (12) and points (32), which are both career-highs. Entering the tournament, the Barrie, Ont. native’s 12 goals placed him in 13th place nationally, while his 32 points tied him for eighth in the nation.

Brett "Brickwall" Petricek
Junior goalie Brett Petricek posted a 0.82 GAA and a .843 save percentage during the regular season. Petricek leads the MAAC in both of the aforementioned categories and is second in the conference in saves (75) and shutouts (7), while finishing third in saves per game (4.69). Nationally, Petricek ranks 12th in Save Percentage, 30th in GAA, and tied for 21st in total saves.
