The Niagara Purple Eagles will play host to the Marist Red Foxes on Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Gallagher Center.
The Red Foxes enter Sunday’s game on a 10-game winning streak and are unbeaten in conference. The Purple Eagles will look to for a repeat of last season’s encounter at the Gallagher Center on Jan. 31, 2010 when they ended Marist’s 13-game winning streak which was the third longest in the nation.
Niagara and Marist met three times last season with the Red Foxes taking the rubber game in the 2010 MAAC Tournament semifinals.
Ready for Action
s Niagara starts conference play 0-5 for the second time in three seasons.
s The starting backcourt of Kayla Stroman and Ali Morris have missed a combined three games due to injury. Stroman, who played in 39 straight games to start her career, has not played since suffering an injury on Dec. 9 versus Hofstra.
s Liz Flooks surpassed current assistant coach Katie Murphy (‘03) for 18th place in all-time scoring. She needs 16 points to move ahead of Annie Kubek (‘98) for 17th place.
s Flooks is 10th in the MAAC in scoring (11.2) and sixth in 3-pointers per game (1.6).
s The Purple Eagles are fourth in the MAAC in steals, averaging 9.2 per contest.
s Flooks is seventh all-time in 3-pointers at NU. She needs eight 3-pointers to tie Chantelle Wilson (‘06) and Eva Cunningham (‘05) for fifth place.
s Sophomore Jessica Flamm and freshman Chanel Johnson had career-high performances at Iona. Flamm had career-highs in points (17) and rebounds (8), while Johnson had career-highs with 20 points and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double.
Depleted Purple Eagles
The mounting list of injuries has affected the Purple Eagles this season. Niagara has missed its starting backcourt duo of Kayla Stroman and Ali Morris in three games, with Stroman missing the last eight games. Guards Noelle Zletni and Grace Cunningham have also missed time due to injuries.
On The Court
Marist Red Foxes (14-2, 5-0 MAAC)
Marist brings another double-digit win streak into the Gallagher Center. The Red Foxes have won 10 straight and are 5-0 in the conference. Senior guard Erica Allenspach leads the top-ranked offense in the MAAC. Allenspach leads the team in scoring (13.5 ppg) and leads the conference in assist/turnover ratio.
Against the Red Foxes (Marist leads 16-13)
In a series full of streaks, Niagara broke its 11-game losing streak against Marist with a 69-59 win on Jan. 31, 2010 at the Gallagher Center. The Purple Eagles also snapped the Red Foxes’ 13-game winning streak, which was the third longest in the nation. NU and Marist met three times last season with the Red Foxes taking the rubber game in the MAAC Tournament semifinals en route to their fifth straight tournament title.
