Women's Basketball Falls To Siena On Kids' Day

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara women's basketball team was defeated by the Siena Saints, 77-37, in its annual Wendy's Kids' Day game on Friday morning.

Niagara's offensive inefficiencies and Siena's 3-pointers led to the Purple Eagles largest defeat in the 62 meetings between the programs. Niagara drops to 1-15 and 0-5 in the conference, while Siena improves to 7-8 and remains in a first place tie with Marist with a 5-0 conference mark.

Playing in front of 1900 children from the Niagara public school system, NU fell in big hole early due to the Saints’ 3-pointers. Siena made five straight 3-pointers to open up a 17-4 lead. The Saints finished the half with seven 3-pointers and took a 36-15 halftime lead with the Purple Eagles only managing four field goals.

The second half was not much better for the depleted Purple Eagles, who were missing three guards including Kayla Stroman. Siena opened the second half on a 24-0 run to effectively put away the game.

Liz Flooks led the Purple Eagles with 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting and 2-for-3 from behind the arc. Jessica Flamm and Chanel Johnson each followed their career-high games last Monday with seven points today. Ali Morris returned to the lineup after missing the last three games to due injury and led the team with four assists.

Niagara will welcome the Marist Red Foxes on Sunday for a 2 p.m. tip.
