EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Niagara
men’s soccer team lost to the No. 23 Michigan
State Spartans, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at the
Old College Field.
"We were able to compete against the
23rd ranked team in the nation,
though I’m not happy with the result," head coach
Dermot McGrane said.
"I believe once we get everybody back
healthy in a few weeks, we will be a good shape."
NU (0-3-0)scored a consolation goal late.
Sophomore defender Rene
DeZorzi scored his first collegiate
goal with a powerful header to the back post in the
84th minute off a cross from junior
Liam Gilbert.
MSU (3-1-1) scored two goals in each half.
Spencer Thompson scored the two first half goals
(14th and 30th
minute). MSU’s Jeff Ricondo and Rubin Bega
scored in the 56th and
69th minute, respectively.
Junior college transfer Michael
Moran had a solid game in net with
four saves in his debut wearing the Purple and
White.
The Purple Eagles have now concluded
their three-game road trip to start the season and
will have their home opener versus Hartwick on
Wednesday at 7 p.m.
