Women's Hoops On MAAC TV Against Saint Peter's

Niagara continues its New York metropolitan area road trip with a MAAC TV contest against the Saint Peter’s Peahens on Monday afternoon. The game will be broadcast live at 5 p.m. on the MSG Network from the Yanitelli Center.

The Purple Eagles had their five-game win streak broken on a buzzer beater by the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday. It was the first of a four-game road trip for the Purple Eagles.

Niagara heads into Monday’s game in fourth place, one game ahead of the Peahens. This will be the first

game between the teams this season; NU will host SPC on senior day on Feb. 28. 

 

Ready for Action

s Niagara had its five-game win streak snapped in its last game.

s Senior Rachele Folino recorded her second career double-double and first of the season with a season-high 25 points and career-high 14 rebounds against Manhattan on Feb. 13.

s Niagara has won seven of its last nine games for its best run since the 2004-05 season (won 10 out of 11 games).

s Niagara’s 10 wins are the most under Kendra Faustin and the most since the 2006-07 season.

s The Purple Eagles are 1-1 in MAAC TV/MSG games.

s NU has forced at least 20 turnovers in five of its last six games.

s The Purple Eagles’ 7-6 conference record is their best record through 13 games since going 7-6 in the 2004-05 season.

s Niagara swept its five-game homestand from Jan. 29-Feb. 8. It was the longest homestand since playing five-straight home games from Jan. 21-31, 1998.

Saint Peter’s Peahens (10-14, 6-7 MAAC)

Saint Peter’s comes into the game winners of three out of its last four games. The Peahens   are led by Natasha Morris who averages 12.2 ppg and 3.5 rpg. Jynae Judson is the other Peahen to average in double-figures (11.2).

 

Against the Peahens (SPC Leads 39-10)

The Niagara-Saint Peter’s series is one of the Purple Eagles’ longer series with a MAAC opponent. The series started in 1980 and the teams have played each other 49 times. The Peahens have had the better share of results throughout the series and have won three of the last four meetings.

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – In a tightly contested game between long time foes, the Niagara Purple Eagles were narrowly defeated by the Saint Peter’s Peahens, 66-58, on Sunday afternoon at the Gallagher Center.

 

NU on MAAC TV

Niagara will make its third appearance on either MAAC TV or Madison Square Garden (MSG) Network games. The Purple Eagles are 1-1 in those games. Niagara won its only MAAC TV game in its last appearance on Feb. 13, 2005 when it defeated Rider, 72-42, in Lawrenceville, N.J.

 

Defense Sparked Streak

Niagara won five-straight games from Jan. 29-Feb. 8 for its longest win streak in five seasons. The Purple Eagles’ tough defense was instrumental to their winning streak. Niagara forced an average of 20 turnovers per game during its five-game win streak, including four-straight games of at least 20 turnovers, and had a +6.8 turnover margin. NU held opponents to 56.6 ppg, including holding Marist to 10 points fewer than its average and Canisius to its lowest point total in the series in the last 32 years.
