ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The Niagara men's soccer team concluded its rivalry week with a 3-1 loss at the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Sunday.

Today's match was the third match against local rivals; Niagara (2-6-1) lost to Binghamton on Wednesday and defeated UB on Friday.

Niagara allowed two first half goals and was unable to capitalize on its scoring chances in its final non-conference game of the season. SBU (5-4-0) struck five minutes into the match and again with less than three minutes in the half to take a 2-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Purple Eagles had a few chances to open their scoring account. However, Bryan Da Cruz, Michael Malone and Michael Cunningham all were denied goals due to quality saves by the Bonnies goalkeeper. NU eventually got a consolation goal in the 82nd minute on an indirect free kick. Carl Haworth lifted his free kick into the box and Liam Gilbert placed his header to the top corner for his fourth goal of the season.

Niagara will start conference action on Friday, Oct. 8 with a home date against the Iona Gaels at 7 p.m.
