Women's Hoops Continues Road Trip At Rider

NU Looks To Continue Streaks

Niagara is back on the court to face the Rider Broncs on Monday night from Alumni Gym. The Purple Eagles are shooting for their second-straight MAAC win, after beating Fairfield on Saturday, and their second-straight over Rider.

The last time Niagara and Rider met was in the 2009 MAAC Tournament First Round. The Purple Eagles came away with a dramatic 71-67 win for head coach Kendra Faustin’s first MAAC Tournament victory; it was their first win at the MAAC Tournament since 2006.

Niagara made clutch shots late against Fairfield to snap its six-game skid against the Stags en route to its first MAAC win of the season on Saturday. Jennifer McNamee moved to one point away from 1,000 career points.

  

Ready for Action

s Niagara held off a late rally by the Fairfield Stags to earn its first MAAC win of the season on Saturday, Jan. 16. The victory gave NU its fourth win and surpassed its win total from last season.

Liz Flooks (14.6) and Jennifer McNamee (11.8) are the top two scorers on the team and rank in the top 15 in the conference. McNamee is tied for fourth in the MAAC with 2.2 3-point field goals. Flooks leads the MAAC and is tied for 11th in the nation in 3-point percentage.

s McNamee is one point away from becoming the 20th member of the 1,000 point club. She will join current assistant coach Katie Murphy (1,060), among others.

s Freshman guard Kayla Stroman leads the team with 4.6 assists per game and is third in the MAAC.

s Niagara leads the all-time series with Rider, 16-12.

s In the game versus Fairfield, the Purple Eagles won their first game when shooting a lower field goal percentage than their opponent.

Rider Broncs (2-14, 0-5 MAAC)

Rider limps into Monday’s night game 2-14 (0-5 MAAC) and have dropped seven-straight. Rider is last in the MAAC in points per game, field goal percentage and 3-point percentage. The Broncs are first in the MAAC in rebounds per game. 

 

Against the Broncs (Niagara leads 16-12)

Niagara leads the all-time series against Rider, 16-12, in a relatively young series. In the last meeting, the Purple Eagles defeated the Broncs 71-67 in the 2009 MAAC Tournament First Round to snap their three-game losing streak against the Broncs.

ALBANY, N.Y. – Hot shooting and tough defense was the name of the game as the tenth seeded Niagara Purple Eagles knocked off the seventh seeded Rider Broncs, 71-67, in the first round of the MAAC Tournament on Thursday from the Times Union Center. The victory was head coach Kendra Faustin’s first MAAC Tournament win.

 

McNamee Close To Prestigious Club

Senior Jennifer McNamee has been one of the most dependable scorers in Niagara women’s basketball history. Her scoring ability has moved her within a one point from becoming the 20th member of the 1,000 point club. Entry into the club could be a precursor for the Hall of Fame, as 12 of the 19 1,000 point club members are in the Hall of Fame. McNamee has averaged 10.4 ppg during her career, 33.3 percent from the 3-point arc and 77 percent at the free-throw line.
