CELEBRATION, Fla. - For the second time in three seasons, the Niagara golf team had a pair of golfers finish in the top 10 at the MAAC Championships held at the Celebration Golf Course in Celebration, Fla. Junior Jason Polka (Lewiston, N.Y.) finished seventh and freshman Trevor Kenney (Burlington, Vt.) tied for eighth place.
Polka carded a 228 (76-75-77) on the par-72 golf course, while Kenney was one-stroke behind his teammate 229 (77-78-74) after Sunday's 74, the best round of the tournament for any Purple Eagle. Mike Jarvis ('08) and Chris Hart ('07) finished in the top 10 in 2007.
Overall, the Purple Eagles finished seventh at the Championships. Loyola was the overall winner, while Loyola's Mike Mulieri defeated Canisius' Drew Creighton on the first hole of sudden death to claim the individual medalist honors. Both golfers finished with a 7-over par 223.
Sophomore Jeremy Christie (St. Catherines, Ont.) and junior Joe Tonnos (St. Catherines, Ont.) both tied for 36 with a 244. Senior Chris Singleton (Niagara Falls, Ont.) totaled a 254 to tied for 47th to round out his Niagara career.
