The men’s soccer team ends its non-conference schedule with two local rivalry matches this weekend. Niagara travels to play the Buffalo Bulls on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and hosts the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Niagara will be eager to step back on the field after suffering its worst loss in over five years last Sunday against Cleveland State. The Purple Eagles have played some tough, gritty matches to start the season in preparations for their MAAC schedule and have overcome injuries to key players. This weekend rivalry games versus UB and Bona will only intensify their preparation.
Niagara has displayed strong defensive performances through seven games. The backline of Anthony DiBiase, Nick Lippa, Renee DeZorzi and Ben Thorne have been solid, while the last line of defense goalkeeper John Fiutowski, continues to put up outstanding statistics. Fiutowski has a 1.50 goal against average and he leads the MAAC with 60 saves and 8.57 saves per game. The tandem of Carl Haworth and Bryan DaCruz are leading the frontline and leading the team in points. Haworth has been plagued with injuries, but has still managed to score three goals and two assists.
