Niagara Purple Eagles (6-2-1) vs. Robert Morris (4-3-0)

After a three-game road trip, the Purple Eagles return to the fan friendly Niagara Field on Sunday for a match against the Robert Morris Colonials.  Both teams were out west last weekend playing in the UNLV Rebels Classic, but did not face each other.

Last Time Out

Laura Kimoto’s (Scarborough, Ont.) 79th minute goal gave Niagara (6-2-1) a gritty 2-1 victory over the Binghamton Bearcats (4-3-1) on Wednesday night. The win was the Purple Eagles’ first over the Bearcats in four meetings.

Dual-Prong Attack

The combination up top between Kimoto and Stephanie Gartley (Camlachie, Ont.) is leaving defenders asking questions amongst themselves.  Gartley has established herself as a deadly finisher in front of goal coming into her senior season, but freshman Laura Kimoto is a brand new option for coach Peter Veltri. The pair has identical numbers in goals (6), assists (1) and points (13) and is tied for third in goals and points in the MAAC.

Gartley Watch

Stephanie Gartley is vastly approaching a career milestone.  On September 7 against Syracuse, Gartley scored her first two goals of the season, the latter being the game-winner.  In her next game against Albany, Gartley bagged a hat-trick. The five goals now put her only two goals behind Jane Baker for fourth place in all-time career goals at Niagara.

Against the Colonials

All-time record against the Colonials (Niagara leads 9-1-1)

Last meeting – September 30, 2007, Niagara 1-0

On the strength of Brittany Bisnott’s first-half goal, the Niagara women’s soccer team cruised to a 1-0 victory over Robert Morris at Niagara Field.

About the Colonials

Robert Morris left Vegas as surprised champions of the UNLV Rebels Classic. They started the classic with a stunning come from behind 2-1 victory over host the UNLV Rebels and defeated the Idaho Vandals, 2-1, two days later. The two victories halted a three-game slide for the Colonials.  Sophomore forward Kathleen Gaggiano picked up NSCAA Player of the Week honors and a spot Soccer Buzz Magazine Elite Team of the Week for her effort last week.

Against the NEC

Niagara holds a 17-9-1 advantage against the Northeast Conference. The Purple Eagles have dominated the series against the Robert Morris Colonials and St. Francis Pa., who they are 16-3-1 against.
