Golf Drops Two Spots on Day Two of MAACs

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Niagara golf team fell from fourth place to sixth place after the second day of the 2008 MAAC Championships in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. on Saturday. Senior Mike Jarvis (Lancaster, N.Y.) is tied for third at 1-over-par (145).

The Purple Eagles four-man total of 308 gave Niagara a 612 total heading into the final day of the Championships. Iona (607) and Siena (610) jumped ahead of NU with solid second-day scores. Last year, Niagara leaped over two teams on the final day of the tournament to finish third.

Jarvis shot a 2-over-par 74 at the Magnolia Golf Course at Disney on Saturday. He is tied for third place with three other players, including two from Rider. He is one stroke behind second place, as Siena's Dan Abbondandolo is at even par. Loyola's Michael Mulieri is in the lead with a 3-under-par 141. Loyola's Matt Bassler, the leader after day one shot a 79 on day two and fell to ninth place.

Chris Singleton (Niagara Falls, Ont.) rebounded from a poor day one to shot a 4-over-par 76. He carded a 90 in the opening round. Sophomore Jason Polka (Lewiston, N.Y.) is tied for 18th after two days, carding a 78 to bring his total to 154.

Don Bryson (Brantford, Ont.) and Joe Tonnos (St. Catherines, Ont.) are 30th and 31st, respectively. Bryson (77-82-159) recorded an 82 on Saturday while Tonnos (80-80-160) shot an 80.

The final day of the tournament gets under way on Sunday at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course.
