Women’s soccer is back at home to host two more MAAC opponents. On Friday, the Purple Eagles will welcome the Manhattan Jaspers (3-9-0, 0-3-0) at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the 2008 senior class will be honored in a pre-game ceremony before Niagara takes the field against the Saint Peter’s Peahens (3-9-0, 0-3-0).

Last Time Out

Niagara shutout the Iona Gaels 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in New Rochelle, N.Y.  Ashleigh Bowers (Liverpool, N.Y.) had eight saves en route to collecting her second clean sheet on the season. The Purple Eagles improved their MAAC record to 2-2-0 on the season.

Purple Eagles in Conference

After a tough 2-0 setback against Fairfield on Oct. 10, the Purple Eagles flock the Iona’s net with shots. Niagara won the game 3-0 and continued its offensive assault against its opponents. The Purple Eagles are second in the conference in shots (188) and goals (25) with Stephanie Gartley (Camlachie, Ont.) and Chiara Greco (Hamilton, Ont.) placing one-two in shots.

Home Support

Niagara has a chance to move into first place in the home attendance in the conference with two home games this weekend. In eight home matches, 2,525 fans have attended for an average of 316 per game.

Gartley Reaching Another Milestone

Stephanie Gartey’s two assists in the win over Iona jumped her over two more Purple Eagle alums into fourth place all-time in assists (22). In the Oct. 5 game against Marist, Stephanie Gartley scored her 46th all-time goal to break her fourth-place tie with Jane Baker. Gartley has already surpassed goal tallies from last season (7), with eight this season, and is second in the MAAC in points and goals.

Against the Jaspers

All-time record against the Jaspers (Niagara leads 9-4-3)

Last meeting – October 14, 2007, Niagara won 2-1

The Niagara women’s soccer team picked up its second win in as many games, defeating Manhattan, 2-1, Sunday morning at Gaelic Park.

About the Jaspers

Manhattan comes to western New York after tying conference leading Loyola 1-1 in its last match. Courtney McMahon and Brittany Duhamel lead the Jaspers attack with three goals each. Goalkeepers Alyssa Bachowski and Caitlin Trupiano split time in goal and the pair has combined for four shutouts and 1.41 goals against average.

Against the Peahens

All-time record against the Peahens (Niagara leads 10-5-0)

Last meeting – October 12, 2007, Niagara won 4-0

Four different Purple Eagles found the back of the net as the Niagara women’s soccer team picked up its second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win with a 4-0 victory over Saint Peter’s (1-11, 0-3) in Jersey City, N.J. Niagara dominated play and held the Peahens to just nine shots all afternoon.

About the Peahens

Saint Peter’s is in a midst of a six-game losing streak. The Peahens (3-9-0, 0-3-0) have lost their first three conference games by a combined score of 8-1.  Saint Peter’s lack of offensive power is the key to its struggle; the Peahens are last in the conference in points, goals and assists.
