NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - The Niagara University Men's hockey (11-8-1, 5-3-1) team dropped a 7-2 decision to CHA opponent Robert Morris at Dwyer Arena on Jan. 12, splitting the two-game home series.
Niagara took control of the score board during the first period, scoring two goals while allowing only one. Paul Zanette (Nobel, Ont.) registered his second goal of the season off a pass from behind the net from Nate Bostic(Holden, Mass) to allow zone to pound in Niagara's first goal from the right side of the crease. Egor Mironov (Toronto, Ont.) followed up with the Purple Eagle's second goal, a power-play one-timer to make the score 2-1 to head into the first intermission.
Halfway through the second period, the game began to tilt towards Robert Morris, scoring three unanswered goals in the second half of the second period, including one power-play goal by Sean Berkstresser. The Colonials then added three more unanswered goals in the final stanza of the game.
Getting set between the pipes for the first time this season, Scott Mollison (Winnipeg, Man.), entered the game with 15 minutes remaining in the third, following Adam Avramenko (Strathmore, Alb.) who got the start. Molison entered the game and made 13 saves, allowing one goal, and Avramenko played for just over 2 periods, stopping 20 shots.
Niagara has now split the four games they have played against the colonials, 2-2, playing a two-game series at the RMU Island Sports Center on Nov. 9-10, and then the two played in Dwyer Arena on Jan. 11-12.
The Purple Eagles continue CHA play on Jan. 18-19 when the team hits the road again to Detroit to take on Wayne State for a two-game series.
