NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagle women’s soccer team returns to Niagara Field on Sunday for a Noon kick-off with Robert Morris. The game will be broadcast on a tape-delay by LCTV, and aired Sunday evening at 7 p.m. on cable channel 20.
Niagara (4-4-0) is fresh off a 2-1 win over St. Bonaventure and will look to continue its winning ways this weekend. NU finally returns home after six of its last eight games on the road.
The Purple Eagles have relied on the offensive firepower of senior Brittany Bisnott (Brampton, Ont.). Bisnott, a two-time MAAC Player of the Week honoree, has twice as many goals as any other player in the conference (6).
Niagara may also be bolstered by the return of junior Stephanie Gartley (Camlachie, Ont) and senior Natalie Frost (Elmira, N.Y.). Gartley missed Niagara’s last two games after suffering an ankle injury in the Purple Eagle’s 2-1 loss at Cornell, while Frost has gradually eased back into game action after missing three Purple Eagle contests with an injury.
A number of young players have stepped up in the veteran’s absence, among them freshman Emily McElroy (Liverpool, N.Y.), who has played in every game, including starting the last two. Sophomore Chiara Greco has also been a bright spot in Niagara’s lineup, making the most of her time on the field. The Hamilton, Ont., native is second on the team in points with three goals and one assist.
After dropping its first four matches, Robert Morris (3-4-1) is undefeated in its last three contests, including a 10-0 blowout of Howard on Sept. 18. RMU’s offense centers around Kathleen Caggiano, who leads the team with 12 points on four goals and four assists. However, the Colonials have had 10 different players find the net this year. Niagara leads the all-time series 8-1-1, with Robert Morris’ lone win coming last season in a 3-2 overtime victory.
