OLEAN, N.Y. - The men's golf team improved its four-man total by nine strokes on the final day of the Leo Keenan Invitational, Monday, to finish in 10th place with a two-day total of 609. Senior Mike Jarvis' (Lancaster, N.Y.) 19th-place finish helped the Purple Eagles sneak ahead of crosstown-rival Canisius who finished one stroke behind with a 610.
Jarvis' 1-over-par total of 71 was six strokes better than his day-one score. Junior Chris Singleton (Niagara Falls, Ont.) recorded in the best turn-around for Niagara, improving eight strokes for day-two total of 2-over-par 72, one off of his career-best round.
Sophomore Jason Polka (Lewiston, N.Y.) turned in a 77 to tie Singleton with a two-day total of 152, good for 33rd place. Classmate Joe Tonnos (St. Catharines, Ont.) recorded a 157 (77-80) to finish in 55th place.
Freshman Jeremy Christie (St. Catharines, Ont.) improved two strokes for a day-two 84, while Kelly Robinson (Fergus, Ont.), turned in career-best 79 as an individual.
Rider's Tyler Brewington won the overall title by two strokes with an even-par 140. The host Bonnies won the team title by five strokes with a 580.
The Purple Eagles are back in action Sept. 29-30 at the Cornell Invitational at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Ithaca N.Y.
