OLEAN, N.Y. - The men's golf team sits in the middle of the pack at the Leo Keenan Invitational after the opening round of the tournament held in Olean, N.Y. Sophomore Jason Polka (Lewiston, N.Y.) turned in the best scorecard for the Purple Eagles with a 5-over-par 75.
Niagara finished with a four-man total of 309 on day one, landing 11th out of 14 teams. Two weeks ago, the Purple Eagles were in a similar situation after the opening round (10th out of 15 teams) and rebounded on day two to finish in sixth place.
"We are not very happy with our results in the opening round," Niagara head coach Kevin Miller said. "Hopefully we will be able to move up (Monday) with a better overall effort, as we did earlier this season."
Senior Mike Jarvis (Lancaster, N.Y.) and sophomore Joe Tonnos (St. Catharines, Ont.) recorded matching 77's for the Purple Eagles, while junior Chris Singleton (Niagara Falls, Ont.) recorded an 80. Freshman Jeremy Christie (St. Catharines, Ont.) had an opening-round 86 in his first tournament action away from Niagara.
Freshman Kelly Robinson (Fergus, Ont.), competing as an individual, turned in an 84.
The Leo Kennan Invitational wraps up on Monday at the Bartlett Country Club.
