Golf Squad Finishes Third at MAAC Championships

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The men's golf team ended its season with its best finish under head coach Kevin Miller, moving up two spots to third place at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, Sunday.

Two Purple Eagles finished in the top 10, as senior Chris Hart (Ithaca, N.Y.) finished in fourth place while junior Mike Jarvis (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Francis) was tied for ninth.

Niagara sat in fifth place at the end of day two of the event, and jumped Rider and Iona to finish in third place for the second time in the last three years. The Purple Eagles finished with a three-day, four-man total of 910.

"The Niagara guys consistantly played well throughout the tournament," Miller said. "Everyone chipped in on the weekend, from our senior (Chris Hart) having his best tournament of the year, to our freshman (Jason Polka) finishing strong in his first championships."

Hart totaled a five over-par 221 after carding a 76 in the final round of the Championships. The senior finished his career with his first top-five finish at the MAAC’a and his best tournament of the season. Jarvis recorded a 77 on day three of the MAAC’s, totaling a 226 for the three-day event.

Sophomore Don Bryson (Brantford, Ont.) and freshman Jason Polka (Lewiston, N.Y./Lewiston-Porter) carded the best final round of the tournament for Niagara. Both underclassmen finished with a 75 Sunday. Bryson recorded a 78-78-75 = 231 in the tournament, while Polka finished strong in his first conference championships, carding a 79-79-75 = 233.
