Bonnies Outlast Niagara 76-57

Coach Faustin

OLEAN, NY. - Senior forward Sarah Wilson (St.Catherines, Ont.) scored 18 points to lead the Purple Eagles, but it wasn’t enough as Niagara dropped a non-conference decision to St. Bonaventure 76-57.

The game went back and forth with both teams gaining momentum at different times. While it was a high octane game, the Bonnies used a methodical approach in order to win their fifth straight game.

"We haven’t played a patient team yet, that stays down and stays focused every possession," head coach Kendra Faustin said. "They have some good players and tonight they did a nice job."

Throughout most of the first half, it went back and forth between the two teams. St. Bonaventure used a 5-0 run early in the period to spark momentum, as they led for most of the period. Using key runs, the Bonnies had decent sized leads for most of the first half, ending with a 36-22 advantage.

Wilson scored 16 of her 18 points in the second half and Jennifer McNamee (Oxford, Ohio) scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough. The Bonnies had double digit leads until Niagara went on a 10-2 run to pull within seven at 47-40 about halfway through the second half. After Niagara’s run, the Bonnies went on a 10-0 run in order to boost their lead to double digits again. Dana Mitchell had 23 points for St. Bonaventure.

Niagara takes to the hardwood again on Saturday, as they will take on the Marshall Thundering Herd at 1 p.m.
