Second Half Scoring Wave Leads Niagara to Victory

Sarah Wilson

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – With four players scoring in double digits, including a career-high 20 points from Sarah Wilson (St.Catherines, Ont.), the Niagara University women’s basketball team defeated Youngstown State, 87-76.

Other then Wilson, Sara Prybyl (Mars, Pa.) scored 15, Jennifer McNamee (Oxford, Ohio) netted 11 and Michelle Manfredi (Jefferson Hills, Pa.) had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to push Niagara to victory.

The back-and-forth affair really took off for Niagara in the second half, where the trailing Purple Eagles outscored Youngstown State by 14, including a decesive 25-13 run midway through the second half.

"I felt that if we took care of the ball in the second half, we would be okay," head coach Kendra Faustin said. "We were more patient in the second half and got more open looks because of that."

Niagara continues to get great play from freshman Liz Flooks (White Plains, N.Y.) and Julie Gebhard (Moon Township, Pa.). Gebhard had a career-high seven points, marking consecutive nights where one of the two freshman had breakout performances. Flooks added two in the victorious effort.

For the Penguins, Heather Karner had 20 points, while Lauren Branson and Kelsey Gurganus had 11 points apiece.

Niagara is back in action when it takes to the road to play the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday, November 17th at 2 p.m.
