NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women’s soccer team (9-5-1, 4-1-1) travels the familiar route to Canisius for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Golden Griffins on Saturday. The game will give Niagara an opportunity to close the gap in the Battle of the Bridge standings, as Canisius currently holds a 4-2 edge in the annual all-sports competition.

Niagara sits atop the MAAC standings, just a point ahead of Marist, and looks to continue its four-game unbeaten streak this weekend.

Senior Brittany Bisnott (Brampton, Ont.) continues to solidify her place in NU’s record books. With 58 career goals, she ranks third all-time in scoring and third in points (132) in her four-year career. But Bisnott has also entered the all-time charts in assists, and is tied for seventh with 16 helpers. Bisnott’s team-leading five assists this season rank her fifth in the conference and are just two shy of her career high (7) set as a sophomore.

Freshman goalkeeper Ashleigh Bowers (Liverpool, N.Y.) posted her first career shutout in Sunday’s 0-0 tie with Loyola, including stopping a point-blank attempt in the final minutes of regulation to force the game into overtime. Last weekend in Niagara’s two games, Bowers posted 14 saves in 200 minutes of action. In addition, her eight saves against Rider were a career high. Currently, she ranks fourth in the conference in save percentage (.814) and sixth in goals against average (1.25).

Meanwhile, Canisius (6-8-1, 3-3-0) sits sixth in the conference and is led by Amanda Janosky, the MAAC’s leading scorer. Janosky has recorded 10 goals this season, one more than Bisnott, although the two players are tied for first in the league with 23 points. Niagara leads the all-time series 17-11, including last year's 4-1 win. The last time the Purple Eagles lost to Canisius was Sept. 19, 2001, when the Golden Griffins squeezed out a 1-0 win at home.
