NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – After a second-place finish in the annual Little Three meet Tuesday, the Niagara University golf team plays its first tournament of the season when it travels to Hamilton, N.Y., this weekend for the annual Colgate Golf Invitational at Seven Oaks Golf Course.
The Purple Eagles will be one of 15 schools in the two-day event. In addition to fellow Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes Canisius and Rider, Binghamton, Bucknell, Central Connecticut State, Cornell, Fordham, Fairleigh Dickinson, Lafayette, Lehigh, Le Moyne, Ottawa, St. Francis and Wagner will be competing on the par-72 course.
Sophomore Chris Singleton (St. Catharine’s, Ont.) is out to a fast start after capturing co-medalist honors at the Little Three meet Tuesday when he fired a personal-best one-under par 71. Junior Mike Jarvis (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Francis) shot a two-over par 74 to finish fourth and senior Chris Hart (Ithaca, N.Y.) had a three-over par 75 to place sixth.
Niagara last played in the Colgate Golf Invitational in 2003-04. The Purple Eagles finished tied for 11th with a two-day score of 611.
