Men’s Soccer Shutout By UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – The Niagara University men’s soccer team (0-2) dropped its second game of the season with a 3-0 shutout loss to UC Irvine (2-0) late Saturday night in the UC Irvine College Classic at Anteater Stadium.

The Anteaters got on the board in the 19th minute when a loose ball in the box went off a Purple Eagle defender and bounced into the net for an own goal giving UCI a 1-0 lead.

UC Irvine’s Matt Murphy scored in the 57th minute off a free kick just outside the box. The ‘Eaters added another goal in the 67th minute when Anthony Hamilton crossed a ball into the box and it was headed in by Murphy to give UCI a 3-0 lead.

Anteater keeper Kenny Schoeni earned the shutout making zero saves. Purple Eagle freshman keeper John Fiutowski (Ottawa, Ont.) had six saves in his first collegiate start.

Niagara is back in action Monday when it faces Santa Clara at 2 p.m. ET at Anteater Stadium.
