NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Noah Salsi’s goal just over three minutes into overtime lifted Duquesne University (5-3-1) to a 2-1 overtime win over Niagara University (2-5-0) in non-conference men’s soccer action Sunday afternoon at Niagara Field.
Salsi got a pass from Brian Bartek in the box and Salsi shot it into the lower left side past junior keeper Jason Whitehead (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley).
Niagara took a 1-0 lead in the game when freshman Latim Bitek (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) scored his first collegiate goal. The rookie scored on a rebound from a free kick.
Duquesne tied the game in the 83rd minute when Bryan Matthews passed to Evan Browne, who slid the ball into the back side of the net.
Senior James McKenna (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) made one save in the first half. The Dukes’ Zach Varga made two saves. Whitehead played the second half and overtime without a save.
Niagara returns to action 4 p.m. Friday with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match against Saint Peter’s in Jersey City, N.J.
