NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Niagara University alumnae Becky O’Donohue (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) is traveling to Hollywood as one of 175 "American Idol" contestants.

O’Donohue, four-year letterwinners on the women’s basketball team from 1998-99 to 2001-02, was one of 28 singers to advance from the Boston auditions that were held this past summer. Twin sister and former Purple Eagle, Jessie O’Donohue, did not compete in the competition due to throat surgery, but did appear on last night’s show.

O’Donohue continues her pursuit of becoming America’s next "American Idol" tonight with auditions in Hollywood.

Purple Eagle women’s basketball coach Bill Agronin said he gave O’Donohue Niagara t-shirts to give to judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson.

O’Donohue played every game (112) of her four-year career for the Purple Eagles. She finished her career averaging 5.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 40 percent from the field and nearly 75 percent from the free-throw line.

The O’Donohues graduated with a bachelors of arts degrees in communications in May 2002.
