Men’s Soccer Falls in MAAC Tournament

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Niagara University men’s soccer team (7-7-4, 5-1-3) had its 2006 season ended with a 3-0 loss to Saint Peter’s College (10-7-2, 6-3-0) in the semifinals of the 2006 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament at Lessing Field on the Fairfield University campus.

The Purple Eagles trailed 1-0 when Murphy Wiredu headed in the cross off a corner kick in the eight-minute mark. Saint Peter’s took a 2-0 lead in the 27th minute when Marco Orias scored from 18 yards out.

MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Juan Gaviria chipped in a shot over Niagara keeper John Fiutowski’s (Ottawa, Ont.) head in the 78th minute.

Fiutowski finished with five saves while Peacock keeper Mathew Lawler stopped six shots.
