Penalty Kick Powers Niagara Past Loyola, 1-0

Rafael Venturini

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Senior Rafael Venturini (Victoria, Brazil) game-winning winning penalty kick in the 88th minute gave the Niagara University men’s soccer team (5-5-1, 3-0-1) its first win over Loyola College (3-8-1, 2-1-0) in eight years in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s soccer game at Niagara Field Sunday.

Venturini scored his third goal of the season and 10th of her career after senior Kwame Oduro (Toronto, Ont.) was taken down from behind in the box on a breakaway.

With the win, the Purple Eagles are now 2-for-2 on penalty kick attempts and remain undefeated in conference play.

Niagara keeper John Fiutowski (Ottawa, Ont.) and Greyhounds keeper Justin Chelland both recorded five saves.

The Purple Eagles return to action Friday when they play at cross-town rival Canisius College.
