Women’s Soccer Returns to the Road

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s soccer team (6-3-0, 2-0-0) puts its three-game winning streak and undefeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference record on the line this weekend when it plays at Rider (2-5-2, 0-1-0) Friday at 3 p.m. and at Loyola (2-7-1, 1-0-0) Sunday at noon.

The Purple Eagles are currently atop the league standings while Rider is in a three-way tie for eighth place and Loyola is in sixth.

Niagara brings a potent offensive attack into the weekend. The squad currently is ranked 11th in the country in scoring offense, averaging 2.89 goals per game.

Three-time MAAC Player of the Week Stephanie Gartley (Sarnia, Ont.) leads the offensive attack with a team-leading 20 points on eight goals and four assists. She ranks eighth in the NCAA in points per game (2.22) and seventh in goals per game (0.89).

Partner on the front line is junior Brittany Bisnott (Brampton, Ont.) who also has a squad-leading eight goals. She has 17 points and ranks 13th in the NCAA in points per game (1.89) and seventh in goals per game.

Senior midfielder Emily Montgomery (Oshawa, Ont.) has 17 points with six goals and five assists. She ranks 13th in points per game and 23rd in assists per game (0.56). Junior Natalie Frost (Elmira, N.Y.) leads the Purple Eagles in assists with six and she also ranks 23rd in the country in assists per game.

In net, freshman Sarah Stephens (Toledo, Ohio) has a 1.82 goals-against average, .738 save percentage and records of 6-3-0 and 2-0-0.

Rider will be looking for its first win in its last three games. The Broncs lost last week’s games vs. George Washington and Loyola. They are averaging less than a goal per game (0.84) while opponents are scoring at a 1.36 clip.

Kelli Burke and Stephanie Madden both lead Rider with four points on two goals. In net, Kim Carter has a 1.36 goals-against average and a .764 save percentage.

Loyola snapped a three-game winless streak last weekend with its 3-0 shutout of Rider. The Greyhounds are averaging 0.88 goals per game while foes are answering with 1.44 goals per outing.

Carolyn Kennington leads the team in goals (3), assists (3) and points (9). Colleen Kinealy and Courtney Arkian both have two goals. In net, Brittany Henderson has started eight of nine games and has a 1.40 goals-against average, .727 save percentage and 2-5-1 record.

The Purple Eagles lead the all-time series with the Broncs, 5-4-0, but trail in the series with the Greyhounds, 15-0.
