LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Kwame Oduro (Toronto, Ont.) netted his third and fourth goals of the weekend to help the Niagara University men’s soccer team (7-5-2, 5-0-2) beat Siena College (2-13-2, 1-6-1), 3-1, Sunday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.
Oduro gave the Purple Eagles a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the game when sophomore Stephen Kauble (Canal Winchester, Ohio) played the ball through the Saint’s defense and Oduro beat the keeper in the right corner.
Freshman Michael Malone (Rochester, N.Y.) netted his second goal of the season in the 10-minute mark when Kauble passed to Malone from the right corner and Malone put the ball over the keeper’s head.
Niagara took a 3-0 lead in the first half when Oduro scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 34-minute mark on a goal-mouth scramble.
Siena scored late when Thomas Ciovacco scored on a rebound in the 85th minute.
Freshman John Fiutowski (Ottawa, Ont.) picked up his sixth win of the season, making two saves, and junior Jason Whitehead (Middletown, N.Y.) made three saves, playing the second half.
Niagara closes the regular-season next weekend with a two-game home stand. The Purple Eagles host Iona at 3 p.m. Oct. 27 at Niagara Field.
