Oduro Scores Game-Winner

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Senior Kwame Oduro (Toronto, Ont.) scored twice to help the Niagara University men’s soccer team (6-5-3, 4-0-2) to a 3-2 victory over Marist College (5-8-1, 2-4-1) Friday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.

Oduro scored the game winner in the 84th minute when he bicycle kicked the ball past Marist keeper Marcelo del Rio. Classmate Matt Stedman (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) picked up the assist.

"This was a very important win at this stage of the conference season," Niagara head coach Dermot McGrane said.

Oduro put the Purple Eagles on the board first when he scored in the 19th minute when Stedman passed to Oduro and he put it over the keeper’s head for the goal.

Marist tied the game in the 23rd minute when Anthony Graci headed the ball past Niagara keeper John Fiutowski (Ottawa, Ont.).

The Red Foxes took a 2-1 lead in the 58th minute when Keith Detelj scored on a shot in the left corner.

Stedman tied the game when in the 72nd minute when he scored on a rebound off freshman Michael Malone’s (Rochester, N.Y.) shot.

Fiutowski made three saves while Michael Danyo and del Rio had a save apiece.

Niagara returns to action Sunday when it plays at Siena at 1 p.m.
