Shaylyn Lawrence

NIAGARA UN., N.Y. – The women’s soccer team (7-4-0, 3-1-0) begins a three-game homestand this weekend when it hosts Marist College (4-10-0, 2-4-0) Friday at 3 p.m. and Siena College (6-6-2, 3-2-1) Sunday at noon.

The Purple Eagles will try and snap their current two-game slide, their longest of the year, vs. the Red Foxes. Niagara’s matchup with Siena has great MAAC implications as the Saints are one point ahead of the Purple Eagles in the standings entering the weekend. Siena currently sits in third place with 10 points, while Niagara’s nine points lands the squad in fourth.

Niagara still possesses the strongest offensive attack in the conference while ranking ninth in the NCAA with 3.00 goals per game. The Purple Eagles also have three players in the national rankings.

Forward Brittany Bisnott (Brampton, Ont.) continues her torrid junior campaign with 13 goals and two assists. Her 28 points (2.33 ppg) ranks fifth nationally while her 1.08 goals per game is second. Both totals are good for first in the conference standings.

Sophomore Stephanie Gartley (Sarnia, Ont.) scored the first goal in the Oct. 15 loss to the Titans to up her season mark to 10. Last year’s MAAC Rookie of the Year ranks in the top-10 in two NCAA catagories, points and goals per game. The forward is ninth with 0.83 goals per game and 10th with 2.08 points. In the MAAC, Gartley’s numbers are good for second, behind Bisnott.

Junior Natalie Frost (Elmira, N.Y.) leads the team with seven assists and is listed 15th nationally with a 0.58 per game average. Her seven helpers ranks second in the conference.

Senior Emily Montgomery (Oshawa, Ont.) has been solid in the midfield this year with six goals and five assists. She ranks fourth in the MAAC with 1.42 points per game.

Freshman keeper Sarah Stephens (Toledo, Ohio) took the loss at Detriot, but has a 2.12 goals-against average. In MAAC action, Stephens has a .760 save percentage.

Marist has lost two of its last three games, and is just 3-5-0 on the road this season. The Red Foxes have given up 2.00 goals per game while scoring only 1.14 in 14 contests. Freshman Kate Fox leads Marist with five goals and 10 points.

Like the Purple Eagles, Siena also comes into this weekend’s action as losers of its last two matches. The Saints are led by Kristen Turner’s eight goals and 17 points.

The Purple Eagles lead the all-time series with the Red Foxes, 6-5-0, and have played to a 7-7-2 series with Siena.
